Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Re: Neither the Dead nor Phish brought the funk

to each his own. i had a couple grateful dead cd's and they've done some good songs, i think it's a stretch to call myself a fan. i really love the beatles, and some people i like were probably inspired by the dead.

if the dead are about music, i'm not much of a fan. if they're about anything else- if they're about telling fans to share their work and making a living off tshirts instead, i'm a huge fan of that. john perry barlow is my hero! (along with lessig, doctorow, and rms.)

i probably relate to pfunk more than the dead, but i don't listen to them much. i was a huge fan of deee lite, who did one or two things with bootsy.

i like funky people, and you can find them at all kinds of concerts where you might not expect them. one thing i'm sure the dead never stood for was everyone liking the same thing. that's a real admirable quality in anyone. funk's what you make of it. i hear in brazil it's like nothing else.
